Julia Shockley grew up on a farm in Snow Hill, Maryland and trained in classical ballet and pointe at Salisbury Academy of Dance and Eastern Shore Ballet Theater. She went to East Carolina University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance performance. There, she discovered a new love for modern dance as well as choreographing. While at ECU she performed in several faculty and student works. Julia graduated in 2014 and moved to Charlotte, NC and danced with Kinetic Works. While with the company she performed in various works throughout North and South Carolina, The Mint Museum, The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts and Culture, and the Bechtler Museum. She was also a member of the Kinetyx Ensemble, which performs shows and leads workshops at schools. Julia has danced with THE MARK Dance Company and is currently a member of Taproot CLT. She has performed in local shows such as Loose Leaves Showcase, Women’s Showcase, Charlotte Dance Festival, Charlotte New Music Festival, Bloom, Shadows, Ashville Fringe Festival, and BOOM Festival. Julia also teaches and practices aerial at Aerial CLT.
